The Volcano Art Center (VAC) is a nonprofit organization that was founded by artists in 1974. The VAC has been successful in operating a gallery that showcases the artwork of over 230 local artists. In addition, the VAC develops and promotes unique educational programs, engaging in arts and culture initiatives to strengthen the communities of Hawai‘i Island. Through their Community Events program, the VAC has presented a wide array of cultural events that include hula performances, story-telling sessions, art workshops for adults and children alike. The VAC also hosts an annual Holoholo Kako'o Artist Retreat, providing a safe and supportive environment for visual artists to explore their creativity. The VAC also offers cultural tourism activities such as guided hikes through local volcanoes, traditional plant harvesting classes, historical tours of Hawai‘i Island and more. By engaging in these activities, the VAC seeks to not only educate people on the culture of Hawai‘i Island but to also create a lasting positive impact on the communities they serve.
