The 8.15-mile long GAR race starts at Aloha Tower and ends at the Aloha Stadium. There are divisions for elite runners, various age groups, wheelchair and hand-cycle competitors, those in the military running in formation (Sounds of Freedom), as well as people who just want to walk and talk with others along the course. Admission to the event is free, though there are registration fees for those who want to participate in any of the divisions. The race features entertainment from local performers and marching bands, plus a huge post-race celebration with food, drinks, music, giveaways and more. Even if you’re not running or walking in the GAR, it’s still a fun event to attend in honor of the great men and women of the military who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. So come on out, join in the celebration, and show your support!
The race also features three unique team challenges: The Mayor’s Cup Challenge, The Civilian Cup Challenge, and the Military Cup Challenge. The Mayor’s Cup is a team competition between businesses and organizations from throughout Oahu, while The Civilian Cup pits service groups (such as Rotary Clubs or Lions Clubs) against one another for bragging rights.
